One at a Time
A Week in an American Animal Shelter
One at a Time

This compelling book brings the tragic issue of unwanted companion animals vividly to life via a true account of seven days in a typical U.S. animal shelter. With compelling photos and moving vignettes, it chronicles the stories of 75 animals who passed through a northern California shelter during one week. Their gripping stories include excerpts from actual shelter records; the words of shelter workers, volunteers, and visitors; and the final conclusion of each animal's journey through the shelter system.

How to Become a CAPS Member

CAPS is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization funded by member donations and foundation grants. Founded in 1992, CAPS is funded by member donations and foundation grants. There are only a few foundations that give grants for animal protection work and funding is very limited.

You can sign up and donate on-line. You can also call or write us for membership information. Basic membership $20 a year, although we gladly welcome tax-deductible donations of any amount. Members receive the CAPS Communicator newsletter.

CAPS plans to continue its extremely important work -- but we simply cannot do this without your support. Please help insure that CAPS is there for companion animals -- particularly those dogs suffering in pet shops and puppy mills -- by giving as generous a donation as possible. Your help is vital.
