All of the following Ag Gag bills and laws apply to puppy mill investigations. Had there been an Ag Gag law in MN, CAPS would not have been able to gather the evidence necessary to convict Kathy Bauck, one of the largest and most notorious dog brokers/breeders in the country. Nor would the USDA have terminated her license because that termination was based on her animal cruelty conviction.

Summary: Proposed "Ag Gag" laws threaten the only way that the public can find out how meat, dairy, and eggs are really produced, and reveal that agribusiness wants to hide their activities from the public.

http://fortheloveofthedogblog.com/news-updates/new-yorks-charlemagnes-law
Summary: Lorianne Pagano never knew about puppy mills. Her first experience with puppy mill dogs was the hardest. In 2003, her husband purchased for her a little Brussels Griffon puppy from a pet store in Amityville, NY. They were delighted with their new family member – they named him Charlemagne. They brought him home, gave him love and good food. He was also brought home with a host of health problems. Lorianne spent thousands and thousands of dollars in vet bills trying to heal Charlemangne’s health problems. In January, 2007, Charlemagne succumbed to kidney disease, a heart murmur and high blood pressure. Charlemagne was the product of a puppy mill. The pet store never admitted Charlemagne was bred in a puppy mill. Not an uncommon scenario with any pet store or pet dealer that sells dogs. Continue reading…

SNN6: A Puppy Town Protest

More than 25 protesters showed up to participate in a CAPS –sponsored protest of Puppy Town in Sarasota on Sunday, April 15. Puppy Town, which also has a store in Tampa, buys dogs from puppy mills in the Midwest that have serious violations of the Animal Welfare Act and from an Internet seller in Georgia who does not have a USDA license. ABC Sarasota and Sarasota News Network (SNN) covered the protest.

Summary:
Laguna Beach City Council Members, The Companion Animal Protection Society (www.caps-web.org) is a national, non-profit organization that exclusively investigates pet factories, puppy mills and pet stores. We have a national record of success exposing commercial breeding operations that violate federal and state laws. Our investigations and direct action campaigns have led to the ordinances that ban the sale of puppy mill dogs and cats you see being passed throughout California. We assisted the cities of West Hollywood and Glendale in the drafting of their ordinances. The Los Angeles ordinance, which is in the works, is based on the evidence from our investigations and our recommendations. Continue reading…
