Pet Works of La Mesa, CA

La Mesa (San Diego County), CA

Pet Works Pet Store in La Mesa, California (San Diego County) has been selling sick puppies for over 16 years. The owner, Richard Fuller claims, “We only get our puppies from the most reputable USDA licensed breeders.” Yet CAPS has uncovered that he gets his puppies from Midwest puppy mills. In January of 2009, CAPS-sponsored protests began in front of the store every weekend to raise awareness in the community about the pet shop and puppy mill issue.

Our presence there had made a difference! The storeowner recently reported that he might soon need to close his doors! Also, with help from the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF), CAPS will be presenting an ordinance proposal to the city of La Mesa which, if passed, will insure that no store in La Mesa will ever again profit from the sale of puppy mill puppies while thousands of shelter dogs are put to their death each year in San Diego County.
