Sarasota County Commissioners' DOG HOG HUNT Meeting
Msg from SDA President Elise Matthes:
PLEASE pass this on to everyone!
The Sarasota County Commissioners' meeting regarding a DOG HOG HUNT has been changed to
July 10th, Tuesday, at 1:30 at the South County Courthouse, in Venice -4000 South Tamiami Trail.
PLEASE ATTEND - WE NEED NUMBERS THERE TO REPRESENT A HUMANE VOICE.
PLEASE email the commissioners to vote against the proposal to conduct a any hog hunts with dogs on the Deer Creek Preserve and the Shewe Tract.
Email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
The ONLY weapons used to kill these huge hogs are DOGS AND KNIVES. That's right, no guns, they are STABBED TO DEATH.
Children are allowed to watch or participate.
The hogs are mutilated and suffer a slow and torturous death. Dogs are often maimed and suffer and can die a horrible death.
There are other viable methods to control the hog population.
We acknowledge the hog population needs to be controlled, but NOT LIKE THIS.
PLEASE pass this on to everyone!

To the average person, these places seem as reliable and safe as eBay, but nothing could be further from the truth...

Sarasota County delays hog hunting decision

Summary:
SARASOTA - A controversial proposal to allow nighttime hunting of wild hogs with dogs and knives in a nature preserve was temporarily shelved on Tuesday by county commissioners.
Facing public opposition from animal rights activists who sent more than 75 emails denouncing the plan, the county commission decided it needed more information about possible alternatives to the hunt. County and regional officials had suggested a pair of three-day night hunts in December and March 2013 to cull wild hogs they say are out of control and tearing up the pristine wilderness habitat.
The proposal will come back to the commission within 30 days.
