For over 20 years, Deborah Howard, founder of CAPS, and her team of investigators have been going undercover, under the guise of employees, in an effort to disclose inhumane and squalid puppy mills and the most egregious offenders of the Animal Cruelty Act. She, along with her team, have witnessed such horrible conditions, including emaciated and mentally anguished dogs, that the scenes haunt them for years.

On April 30, 2014, CAPS held a cocktail party at the Seaport Hotel and World Trade Center to celebrate the launch of our “Models Against Pet Shops and Puppy Mills” ad campaign in all of the MBTA commuter trains and at 20 stations in Boston. Even though I had to share the spotlight with ALL of my bratty brothers (Spencer, Wylie, and Oliver), that didn’t stop me from being CAPS’ fabulous spokesmodel. I had so much fun! Hopefully, Mother will be organizing more cocktail parties in the near future.

CAPS HOLDING MEET AND GREET: If you want to meet and take photos with radio hosts Loren Owens and Wally Brine from WROR-FM, TV newscaster Susan Wornick, and Boston Herald columnist and radio host Jaclyn Cashman — not to mention one very cute basset hound — check out the Cohasset-based Companion Animal Protection Society’s April 30 event. The society’s MBTA ad campaign launch party is being held that day at the Seaport Hotel & World Trade Center in Boston, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., with advance tickets priced at $25, or $30 at the door.
The national ad campaign is designed to educate the public about puppy mills and the risks associated with buying dogs at pet shops supplied by those facilities. The ads, featuring professional models and rescue dogs, appear on MBTA commuter trains and at 20 train stations.
At the launch party, attendees can take pictures not just with human hosts but also with CAPS “spokesdog” Beatrice, a basset hound puppy-mill survivor and canine star of the ad campaign. The party will also feature free drinks and appetizers, gift bags, a silent auction, and a raffle.

I thought for sure that South Shore Living had chosen me to be one of the 10 most influential women on the South Shore of Boston. I was able to live with the fact that the magazine had chosen Mother because she and I posed for photos together for the article. She also posed with the Bratty Brothers (Spencer, Wylie, and Oliver), but being that I was quite the consummate professional and they acted like brats, I was positive that the magazine was going to feature the photo of Mother and me posing on an overturned rowboat. To my dismay, the magazine used a photograph of Mother sitting with Oliver (Wylie is below them, but you can’t see much of him). Oliver is very prominent in the photo. How could this have happened?
