 Attorney for Puppy Experience Demands Protesters 'Cease and Desist'
Tensions are escalating between a group of protesters who rally outside The Puppy Experience in Aquebogue and the owner of the business. For weeks, protesters have been demonstrating outside the puppy store on Route 25, carrying signs stating that many pet stores purchase dogs from puppy mills; the most recent protest was this weekend. "I believe the purpose of Mr. Alber's letter is to seek to try to chill the exercise of free speech and assembly by CAPS by threatening to obtain an impermissible prior restraint of that speech. Puppy Experience makes the shameful threat of suing CAPS despite the fact that the Volunteer Protection Act confers immunity in these kinds of baseless suits. CAPS will vigorously defend any such lawsuit brought by Puppy Experience. New York State has an anti-SLAPP statute, and we shall seek to hold Puppy Experience, and any other litigants claiming causes of action against CAPS, liable for damages." - John T.
