While no one person or organization is perfect, there are some that really know how to succeed. You can find rescue organizations anywhere and everywhere these days. Many people are eager to start one of their own, but that doesn't mean they're all worth their salt. Almost Home Foundation is a pet rescue in the Chicagoland area that has made a world of difference in the lives of many dogs and cats, and their adoptive families. You can hear founding members uttering "9 years, over 9,000 dogs and cats rescued" as they now celebrate their ninth anniversary.

There are many today who are breathing a sigh of relief - not for themselves, but for the welfare of dozens of dogs. And there are others who are witnessing firsthand the heartbreaking effects of the previous callous, inhumane treatment of those same dogs. This is a time for victory celebrations, for a Companion Animals Protection Society mission successfully accomplished, and for the sweet scent of freedom these dogs now enjoy thanks to Almost Home Foundation. Puppy Parlor Pet Shop in Lisle, IL with it's back room puppy mill, has closed it's doors and handed 35 dogs over to the rescue.

LISLE – A group of protesters forced what they say to be both a pet store and puppy mill in the center of Lisle to shut its doors.
"Rescued from "one of 100 worst puppy mills in US"
Dogs rescued in terrible shape. Spent years in small crates. All had badly swollen paws, most had skin infections, ear infections, parasites, and urinary tract infections. One needed femoral head ostectomy surgery, his back end could not support him at all. Another has a tick-borne illness which requires special medical attention. All need general medical, dental, heartworm testing & preventative, vaccinations and neutering.
Help change the future for these dogs!

The dogs are finally out of the back room of the Puppy Mill Parlor. The Almost Home Foundation has 35 dogs that are in bad shape. Donations, volunteers, and foster homes are needed. The picture you see, is a before and after. The dogs are finally receiving the care they deserve. No more cages. No more dark rooms. No more scary noises. Real food, not dumpster dived expired food. Real bowls to drink from. Real affection and love from a person, not a monster. No more drunks scaring and abusing them. The ages of the dogs that have spent their entire life in a cage range from 1 year to 5 years, 5 months. That is what you call animal cruelty and should never ever have been allowed to go on for years and years. This was NOT a pet store. This was a puppy mill on Main Street in Lisle.

A suburban Chicago pet store that has been breeding puppies at its location and had been subject of protests for more than a year has closed it's doors. The Puppy Parlor had been one of 12 Chicago-area pet stores investigated by the Humane Society of the United States in 2012 that traced the origins of many of the dogs sold in the stores to puppy mills. The store's owner also operated a breeding operation at the facility and was called out by the HSUS as one of the 100 worst puppy mills in the US last year.
