When Deborah Howard walked into a pet shop in Atlanta in 1989, she didn’t know that it would change her life forever. Appalled at the conditions of the animals, Howard wondered where they came from and why they appeared ill and uncared for.

The last couple of months have been purely magical. Ever since February 2013, CAPS’ “Models Against Pet Shops and Puppy Mills” campaign has been all over the USA. Our PSA “This Is the Face of a Puppy Mill Dog,” starring me and fabulous model Kiley Wirtz-Jennings, has aired on PBS stations in Tampa Bay, Los Angeles and Orange County, San Diego, San Francisco, and Chicago. Being the star in a PSA isn’t enough for a girl like me, though! Ever since I was a pup, I’ve had big goals and the last couple of months I’ve seen some of those dreams come true. This is all so exciting!

One of the biggest challenges for charities and non-profit organizations is finding a way to stand out among the crowd. Most constantly having to prove in one way or another that their work is important and should be supported.

Puppy mill protestors who spent months demonstrating on Route 25 in Aquebogue last year have embarked upon an advertising campaign.
Deborah A. Howard, president of the Companion Animal Protection Society, said ad posters have been placed in both Long Island Rail Road and MTA Metro-North Railroad cars.
CAPS will begin working with other animal welfare groups, including the San Diego Humane Society, the Animal Welfare Coalition and others in a committee organized by the Public Health and Neighborhood Safety Committee. This is a great day for animals everywhere in our city and our world who have no voice!
Thanks so much to all that came in support of the CAPS presentation!!!
We did it!!!
