Puppy mill protestors who spent months demonstrating on Route 25 in Aquebogue last year have embarked upon an advertising campaign.
Deborah A. Howard, president of the Companion Animal Protection Society, said ad posters have been placed in both Long Island Rail Road and MTA Metro-North Railroad cars.
CAPS will begin working with other animal welfare groups, including the San Diego Humane Society, the Animal Welfare Coalition and others in a committee organized by the Public Health and Neighborhood Safety Committee. This is a great day for animals everywhere in our city and our world who have no voice!

In 1989, Deborah Howard walked into an Atlanta pet shop and was shocked by the conditions. The place was dirty, and there were lots of sick puppies, including a small yellow Labrador retriever who pressed against the small cage with an oozing cut on his leg.

Anyone who has ever seen a PETA advertising campaign – that’s the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals – knows that there has long been a link between show business and animal rights. Now, a local non-profit organization that has spent over 20 years standing up for animals has launched its own campaign, with the help of some very glamorous people: models, stylists, photographers and more from the fashion industry.

Former puppy mill dog, Bea, has made many friends and fans these days. Starring next to the beautiful model, Kiley Wirtz, she has posed in a special video and print message to raise awareness about puppy mills and the pet shops that profit from them.
WEDU (PBS Tampa Bay, FL) schedule: CAPS is sponsoring "The News Hour" for 30 days (it runs M–F, 7–8pm), starting this evening. We are also sponsoring "Downton Abbey" on Masterpiece Classic and other shows.
San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago start Feb 18th for "The News Hour." San Diego and Los Angeles are donating extra spots that run during primetime. These PBS stations all run our spot for 2 weeks. All are 15 seconds with San Francisco being 30.
Also, our CBS Outdoor billboard across from Happiness is Pets in Lombard, IL goes up from February 11 – March 10.
