Nobody enjoys talking about animal poop (yeah, it’s awkward), but there’s no way of avoiding the subject: it always comes down to either taking your dog for a walk or cleaning up a stinking litter box. Most of the entries posted so far have been canine-related. Even though I’m sure doggie doo doos can be somewhat overwhelming, especially on a rainy day, we’re going to focus on our other frisky companions: CATS!
Sifting through clumps of litter is disgusting. Kneeling on the floor, mastering the use of the scooper, and keeping your pet from jumping in as you clean is dishonorable. The embarrassment of a visitor catching a sniff of the ammonia can reach mortifying levels. And lets not forget about the gag factor.
But you love your cat and you make amends, embracing all responsibilities, including the dirty ones.

CAPS celebrity Beatrice was all about her SPA treatment last month. As our readers know by now, she’s the princess of the Howard household- meaning: she usually gets what she wants. Regardless of her royalty status, the droopy-eyed cutie has some severe health issues, including deformed elbows (congenital luxation of the elbow’s radial heads) and glaucoma. After carrying the heavy pooch around and getting a shoulder injury, CAPS president Deborah Howard decided to make an appointment for some doggie physical therapy. It’s official; we’ve got the stomach butterflies. After undergoing some serious soul-searching, CAPS found its purrfect Valentine. Amidst thoughts of red roses, decadent chocolates, huggable plushies, and tacky romance movies, cupid struck home and the team went gaga for McMuttigan’s, an organization that helps once forgotten dogs receive a second change in life with the help of individuals who have also been pushed aside by society: inmates.
When we bring a dog into our lives, we add a new family member to the household. As we provide food, shelter, and love to our four-legged friends, they reward us in many other ways beside the daily face-licks and warm-welcomes after a long day at work. We search high and low to buy their quality foods, pay excessive yet necessary medical bills, and once we lay them to rest in peace, we mourn them. Our four legged friends play such an important role in our daily lives that besides being pets, they become part of our families. As perceptions evolve, our companions aren’t just animals, but individuals who transcend the stereotypical human and domesticated animal relationship. Thankfully, CAPS members aren’t the only ones who have experienced the life-changing epiphany. Apparently, law makers nationwide are feeling the heart-string tugs.
You all know Beatrice, the sad-eyed beauty who was once rescued from a puppy mill by CAPS investigators and became a poster puppy for CAPS and the fight against the pet shop and puppy mill industry. The congenial dog who wags her tail like a helicopter propeller won the hearts of many CAPS members and now, in her years of glory, has her own blog, Bea’s Beat , which she’s barking for you to visit ASAP.
Bea doesn’t want you to gawk at her stardom, though. This one of a kind lady is asking folks like you for help. There are other Basset Hounds searching for a forever home, promising great companions in return for a little love. They come from a place in NY state that is a haven for damsels like herself. CAPS can’t get enough of the recipes posted in It’s A Vegan Dog’s Life. Truth be told, ’tis the season for delicious food and heart-warming baking. Since the previous post was all about pet holiday hazards (make sure you read it!), we have a solution for when your pup makes a threat with those big, sad eyes (you know the look, don’t you?). Don’t give in by letting Fido lick the batter bowl (or “accidentally” throwing some scraps under the table – BIG NO NO), but make a healthy treat instead! This way, after a long day full of preparations and celebrations, everyone goes to bed with a happy, full tummy and a calm, guilt-free mind.
As many pet owners know by now, there are countless holiday hazards that will keep you awake at night. The friendly people at CAPS don’t want the endless, disastrous scenarios to dampen your Christmas spirit.
